Yer having a laugh.

My father once said to me to take what I do seriously but not to take myself seriously. I never thought about it too much until about 20 years ago when I became a Pastor! If ever a profession was in danger of disappearing up its own exhast pipe it's "the ministry." Lighten up I want to shout when in certain company, it may never happen. I have even been accused of having "a spirit of levity." Me? Perish the thought.
The Troubles started when I was 17. I even got arrested in Royal Ave one day. Suspected murder but I never done it and got out after 4 hours. My fingernails never did grow back. I'm sure humour was one of the ways we used to cope with some of the grim things that happened. You just have to laugh at most things. I was asked to see a lady once who wanted to stop smoking...well her husband wanted her to. We prayed for the demon of nicotine to go in Jesus name. It's a stubborn wee blighter and refused to budge! So I took her to one of the big guns. Surely he could get rid of it. Jim listened to her story, asked her how many she smoked a day and said if he had her problems he would be smoking twice as many. Go home and don't worry about it, he told her. Go on laugh about it.
