Hooray for the Cardinal

Back to porridge.
While I think the primary goal of the church is to witness to the grace of God and not to beat people up, I applaud Cardinal O'Brien for his sermon. I refuse to be neutral on the issues of the day as I think there is a vital principal here.
If the church has to do anything it has to speak up for those who have no voice. The people to whom abortion matters most [the unborn children] have no say in the matter! Their voice is not listened to, therefore we must speak up for their rights. It's a question of life and death.

where is the kine between beating people up and speaking out the truth about our values??

I think that abortion is an issue where we need to be very very very clear - it is murder plain and simple.

We need to be careful that we do not go way too much "grace" orientated if that means we chicken out of telling people what we see as kingdom values. I believe it is possible to be very strong but still love people - that is gracious in my book. If we hide under a cloak of "grace" because the real issue that we are too afraid to step on toes then I think that we have lost the plot...

There's an interesting spin on the wider issue being discussed over on the BBC's "Will and Testament" blog - see here.
