But why?

Is the attempt to rob scripture of it's power to make the truth more palliative to those who do not believe? If so you may get a few who intellectually feel better about the bible but the consequence is that they are themselves robbed of the reality of what it can do for their lives.
You rob them of hope for life in Christ and deny them the chance of salvation.
This stuff is from Hell itself.

Whats your views on the Emerging Church, from what I've been listening to the Church seems very split on this subject?

Hello, I have recently had an experience of which you speak, there is a youth ministry blog I was reading not so long ago, a big youth ministry in the states, 2 guys working across 2 states, I'd read there blog a couple of times, but then they wrote a post in which one of the guys said he told his young people, when talking about other faiths, and I quote ' I know God best through Jesus Christ, and the God I know would not limit himself or herself to only one group of individuals.' I got into a bit of debate with the fellows involved, which really led nowhere, but it seriously worried me that people working with youth were watering down Jesus, to be tolerant, cool and to attract people.

I think the problem is that you can not label all the different or new expressions of the Christian faith as "The Emergent Church". There are varying views and aspects and you cannot tar them all with the same brush.

Another problem is, as Paul rightly says, the church will always be reforming itself (hence the Reformation) and this is not a bad thing.

Jesus said that whoever proclaims Him as Lord is working for Him and not against Him. We need to be very careful not to become this generation's stumbling block by becoming religious and blocking any new thing God is doing.
