A load of junk

I'm still on about so called "Progressive Christianity."
Often the worst attacks are the most subtle. They tend to center on the veracity of scripture. But if you go down that line everything is up for grabs. What about this one; "the gospels aren't true but there must be truth in them for people to make up such wonderful stories about Jesus. He must have been a special man."
Yes He was but He was also the Son of God. To take away from who He is, completely undermines Him and salvation. If Jesus was not the eternal Son then we are lost. If the gospels are not a true account what have we left? If that isn't true what about the instructions to help the poor and marginalised? Does that go out of the door as well?
You can't have it both ways.
