Majoring on the minors
How could we have been so blind! There are a myriad of subjects which are at best the means to the real goal; that of knowing Christ and making Him known.
Some Christians hold subjects such as the nation of Israel, the second coming, the anti Christ, Bible prophecy and even the gifts of the Spirit as the main thing. These are important and God has raised up men and women to explain them in a Biblical context but for many they have been so fixated on them that they are distracted from keeping the main thing the main thing.
Majoring on the minors often produces an arrogance towards those who don't.
Surely we should stop this wandering up side roads and concentrate on grace, the Cross, salvation, discipleship, growth, repentance, faith the Church, ministry, leadership and eternal values.
Last night we had our autumn Alpha Supper. One hundred and seventy-five showed up and we fed them a good supper but more importantly we offered them eternal food; a relationship with Christ. Let's see more and more people reached, saved, discipled and added to the Church. Don't waste your life.

You're so right Paul. The goal IS Jesus and what He has done for us. What makes the biggest impact is the live stories of what God is doing at the minute.People come to Alpha because they hear it'works'(you know what I mean)Someone told me that they were moved to tears on the Alpha Sunday, seeing the placards and hearing the stories of people finding salvation! We need to be courageous. Sorry I need to be courageous! to GO and be faithful and obedient and then TELL others -(i.e en-courage others) what He has done for me. Sometimes I want to clap and shout when I hear the story of the result of someone's obedience, faithfullness, Salvation!! and then I want to weep cos our corporate response is so muted. I'm not talking about whooping and hollering just about encouraging.You must feel deflated at times telling a great story of God's work and all we do is smile politely!!
C'mon Church God IS moving lets hear about it.

I agree about majoring on the minors. I have never taken a Bible course or a class on theology. Maybe I should. I am also not very well educated so please help me.
My understanding is that the “major” is Christ Himself. He is “A” to “Z”. The Beginning and The End. The Last Adam, The New Creation wherein dwelled righteousness. “The” finished Plan, Purpose, Intent and Work of God. “The” Son, The Kingdom, and etc.
I have no Life separate from Him, I have no Salvation except in Him, and I have no Truth other than He Himself. He is not my way to heaven. He is my way period, and the only way to fellowship and union with The Father. It seems like we stop and worship the types, shadows and signs (the minors). They all point to Christ and His glorified Body. Us in Him and Him in us. It seems to me that we should all “now” go to the destination that all these things are pointing to, Christ Himself.
Recently a gentleman wanted to argue with me about “stuff”. I finally stopped Him and graciously said. After reading the scriptures all I can say that the entire Bible speaks of to me of is this. I am in Christ and He is in me.
God has always had one purpose and one plan. Eph 1: 9-10 He made known to us the mystery of His will according to His kind intention which he purposed in Him with a view to an administration suitable to the fullness of times. That is, the summing up of all things in Christ, things in the heavens and things on the earth. In Him. NASU
From Him, by Him, in Him, through Him, with Him, unto Him and that is always now!.
Am I missing something? Help me.

That is so true, I remember leading worship a few years ago and saying the very same thing, as in, "The main thing, is to keep the main thing, the main thing. JESUS" It is really brilliant to be reminded of this.

Very true though I don't think many men or women in the church are explaining the nation of Israel very well.
Over the past 2 years there have been 40 Palestinains killed for every 1 Israeli. Palestinian land is being constantly stolen and it's people live in an open-air prison. Where else in the world are so many people denied most of their basic human rights, only to have their problems sweeped under the carpet by the world's media? The status quo exists because of American Christian Zionism. The church around the world is indoctrinated to show unwavering support to the state of Israel (a secular state) no matter what wrongs they commit. This is despite the fact that there are many more Christian believers living in Palestine than in Israel.
