Version 2.1 Friday’s: All you need to know about our Friday night gatherings…
Vision: To be a catalytic youth event….
We believe in youth work that is relational and built on values. We are not about 'baby-sitting' but see young people as potential 'history-makers'. Our young people are not the church of tomorrow but of today and their values, opinions and gifts are precious in the life and success of our church. We are committed to developing the spiritual, physical, emotional and social needs of every teenager whom we have the privilege of serving.
We believe that there is no better place to look for a blue-print of how to do youth work than in the example of Jesus. During his three years of ministry he spent quality time with a small group of people disciplining and nurturing them as their relationships developed. We recognise that each person is unique, a creation of God. With this in mind, diversity is both a reality and challenge rather than a threat. Therefore each person is of value and can contribute to our ministry.
We hope to develop each young persons talents and abilities. We also believe that God is the
ultimate giver and want to encourage all to find out who they are in Christ and fulfil their calling. We see this happening throughout the dynamic of small groups. These groups, which are called 'cells', are the driving force behind our ministry. We place quality of relationships above numbers attending and people before programs. We are committed to seeing young people take responsibility for their faith and believe that with the right mixture of equipping, experience and encouragement that they have the ability to reach their peers with the gospel.
We are dreamers, confident that God's heart is the same as ours that this generation might be sold out for Him living according to His standards. We welcome change as a chance to embrace the new and are sure that our faith which has stood the test of time will again prove to be 'the constant' in an age when all around seems chaotic.
Values
Here are the values that we aim to live out in our youth ministry
Worship [Jesus at the centre]
we want to be worshippers of God above everything else. Young people are bombarded with images and idols to follow. We place God at the centre of everything we do and seek to give Him the glory. To do otherwise is to merely play at 'religion'.
Grow[everyone moves forward in their faith]
we recognise that the Christian faith is about journey. We want our young people to move forward in their faith and develop spiritual habits that will help them through their life experiences. This will not happen overnight but will be a gradual process.
Community [where everyone feels like they belong]
we value community and realise this is a basic need amongst our young people. As the world encourages us to retreat into our private, personal world, so we actively encourage our young people to meet together through cell groups and the larger Sunday program.
Reach [Everyone takes mission seriously]
we believe that the message of Jesus should affect people's lives and change them for the better. Jesus met the physical, spiritual, emotional and social needs of those he came into contact with and at CFC we want to clearly present Jesus to those who do not know Him.
Serve[Everyone has the chance to use their gifts]
we encourage every believer to find out what gifts God has given them. For some it may be leading a cell night or praying for the sick, others will find they have the gift of helping others or working on setting up a hall. Whatever the gift we want to create an environment that allows each young person to express who they are in Christ.
CELL
-
What (are cells)?
-
Why (do we need cells)?
-
Where (does it happen)?
-
When (does it happen)?
What
cell groups are all about relationships. The aim of a youth cell is to create an environment for each person to be encouraged and in turn encourage others in the Christian faith. Each cell will have a cell leader and assistant. Their role is to look after the group and care for individual needs. Each cell will function with anything between five and twelve people who are interested in learning more about the message of Jesus, some cells will be single sex whilst others will be mixed gender. Cell is not another church meeting but an opportunity for young people to work through issues that are relevant to them in a safe and caring environment.
Why
traditionally church youth work has been about numbers and programs. Statistics show that this is not meeting the needs of this present generation. In some areas there are more young people leaving the church than there is joining. Young people crave for meaningful relationships, they need to feel that they belong and are accepted. These needs cannot always be met in the traditional church meeting. At the heart of cell is the value of relationships, first with God and then with others. We believe that this can best be achieved in a small group environment.
Where
where a cell meets is important if it is to be successful. One location chosen by a cell will not be the same as that of another. For some it may be best in a house for others in church premises. We believe that cell is not a fad but a value that we want to see lived out as a lifestyle. Cell is not just about a 1 ½ hour meeting every week, but rather how the group helps and supports each other in everyday life.
When
each cell will be responsible for when it meets. Using this approach we hope that it will be flexible enough so that nobody is excluded from being involved in a group. It is hoped that each time a cell meets formally the meeting should last no longer than around 1 ½ hours. These groups usually meet weekly and then join together with other cells once a month for a youth celebration.

VALUES
Mission [focused on the needs of others ]
Unique [a reflection of who we as a youth community]
Cutting edge [quality, excellence & ownership]
We are into our 2nd season of TroyToy, which kicked off with ‘Full Charge’ on 26th Nov. 05. Our theme was centred around being plugged into the right power source and we had an electric [and sweaty] worship experience with Bluetree as well as thought provoking drama and cracking dance routines. The night rounded off with our rowdy MC’s and DJ’s taking us into party mode.
